Brent Chapell is a Board Certified criminal appellate lawyer and the Managing Attorney of Chapell Law, PLLC. For more than a decade, he served the public as a prosecutor in the Texas and federal criminal justice systems — and what he learned in those roles shapes how he approaches every client and every case.

Brent began his legal career as a briefing attorney at the Eleventh Court of Appeals of Texas, where he researched and drafted judicial opinions across civil and criminal matters. That foundation in appellate law has shaped everything that followed.

He spent seven years at the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, rising to Chief of the Appellate Division. In that role he handled more than 200 criminal appeals and writs of habeas corpus, mastered habeas litigation, and gained trial experience across the spectrum of criminal cases. In 2019, Brent received the Prosecutor Service Award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving for his tireless work in vehicular crimes cases.

Brent later served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Appellate Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas. He personally argued more than 80 federal criminal appeals and writs before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He regularly worked alongside trial AUSAs to build appellate strategy from indictment forward.

Most recently, Brent served as Division Chief of the Public Integrity Division at the Harris County District Attorney's Office, leading a team handling complex public corruption, police misconduct, and election crime matters. He overhauled the division’s policies and procedures and earned the trust of law enforcement agencies across the county and beyond.

Brent is Board Certified in Criminal Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is licensed in the State Bar of Texas, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, and the United States Supreme Court.

He earned his J.D. with honors from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law (now Texas A&M University School of Law), where he was a Moot Court champion and member of Law Review. His excellence in advocacy led to his induction into the National Order of Barristers and the National Order of Scribes. He holds a B.A. with honors from Texas A&M University.
